We answer some of your most frequently asked questions about dating.
Q. I have been chatting for ages to a nice man in Leeds, I live in Bournemouth and we have not met yet. This has been going on for 6 months now and I am wondering whether to cut the ties and get back to dating instead of holding out with this guy, can you help?
A. First of all you need to understand what this chap is looking for, i.e. is he looking for friendship, fun or a serious relationship. You should also consider the distance (in miles) between you, is it possible if you start dating to maintain this relationship from a distance. If you were to become serious, would one of you be prepared to move to a new location. You should be realistic with your objectives. Hope this has given you food for thought and good luck.
Q. I would like to know your views on the man paying for everything on a first date or do you think going dutch is the fair option?
A. This is a good question and it is one of the most frequently asked. Historically men paid and if they didn't they were not deemed to be a gentleman. This has become a thing of the past with both parties earning and in some cases the woman earning more than the man. There is no right or wrong really and it depends totally on your own personal ideals. If you want a guy to pay for everything, then that is what you need to look for. If you would rather go dutch, then so-be-it.
Q. What does it mean when a guy/girl just wants to have fun?
A. This could mean that they not ready to commit to a serious relationship and that they are seeking anything from a one night stand to a friendship. The best way to find out is to ask them straight. Do not go into it thinking that you will win them round into having a relationship. Honesty and respect is the best way forward in this situation.
Q. What should I do if a man or woman ask me for money prior to or during the early stages of meeting?
A. This is an excellent question. Please be very cautious of anyone asking you for money no matter what the reason. There are a lot of scams going on right now and many go through dating sites mainly because people can be in a vulnerable state of mind. We advise that you never give money to anyone other than those close to you of course who are family and friends who you know and trust.
